Liverpool reject Chelsea´s Torres bid

Chelsea’s desperate attempt to bring star striker Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge has been knocked back by Liverpool.

Reports say owner Roman Abramovich was set to part with up to 40 million pounds to secure the services of the Spaniard, but despite their own financial woes, the Reds were not willing to budge on arguably their greatest asset in the quest to rebuild their season.

Liverpool’s owners New England Sports Ventures confirmed via a spokesman that the 26-year-old was not on the market, with fans on Merseyside breathing a collective sigh of relief.

“Chelsea have made a bid for Fernando which has been turned down. The player is not for sale,” the spokesman was quoted as saying by England daily The Times.

Torres reportedly has a clause in his contract that enables him to be released for transfer, should the club be offered a minimum of 50 million pounds.
