PSG target Champions League return

Paris Saint-Germain full back Marcos Ceara said return to the Champions League next season is a must for his side.

Ceara, 30, says the Paris-based club, who currently sit second in Ligue 1, will target a spot one of three Champions League qualification spots.

“Our aim is to continue our pre-Christmas form and remain up near the top of the table,” Ceara told Le Parisien.

“I am not sure if we are capable of winning the title, but our goal must be to finish in the top three.”

“To win the title would be fantastic.”

The Brazilian defender – who has featured nine times this season – is hopeful of a contract extension that will prolong his stay at the Parc des Princes.

Christophe Jallet has often been preferred to the experienced Ceara at right-back, who wants to be more involved in first team action in 2011.

“I love this club, and I would love to extend my contract,” Ceara said.

“At the moment it’s too soon to be thinking about that, but maybe we can begin negotiations in the summer.”

“I am hoping that 2011 brings some pleasant surprises, and that I can play regular football and perform well. I am also hoping that the team can continue to produce results.”

Ceara admitted he would like playmaker Stephane Sessegnon – who has been linked with a move elsewhere as reports he is unhappy at the club continue to spread – to stay a member of manager Antoine Kombouare’s squad.

“Every player has their own objectives,” Ceara said. “Stephane has not been playing as much as he would like and maybe he has offers from other teams.”

“But we mustn’t forget the club in all this. Stephane is an employee of the club and he has a contract to honour.”

“He is a great player and an important part of the group. I hope he stays here and helps us win the title, and I also hope that all this speculation does not have an adverse effect on the rest of the squad.”

Ceara was speaking just before a four-day training camp for the PSG squad in Morocco, where they will play a friendly against local side WAC Casablanca on Wednesday.
