Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is feeling confident ahead of his side’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday at White Hart Lane.
A win for the fourth-placed Londoners would be their first against United since a 3-1 home victory in 2001 – not a record that Redknapp fears with almost an entire squad to pick from.
“Gareth Bale missed a couple of days training, he’s had problems with his back, but he should be ok. And Younes Kaboul, he’s missed a game, but he’s back training. We’re in good shape really; we’ve got pretty much a full squad,” he said on Friday.
“A win against United would open it up again. They’re in fantastic shape, top of the league. They have a good lead on everybody. I think everyone else, the other teams up the top there, will be hoping we can pull off a result, close the gap and keep everybody involved.”
Defeat for Manchester United would be their first of the season and even if Ferguson’s men leave White Hart Lane with a point or more, Redknapp does not feel that the Red Devils have the strength to go through the whole campaign unbeaten.
“I can’t see them going all season unbeaten. It’s not impossible but I don’t see them doing it. I don’t think they’re on a completely different planet to the rest of the teams, but they are favourites for the league,” he said.
“We’ve every chance. We’re at home. I think we are a good team with good players. We are a better team than the one that played Man United last year.”
‘We’ll give them a real game on Sunday.”
Redknapp, meanwhile, said the possibility of David Beckham joining Spurs on loan had given the club a significant boost.
“David has brought a buzz around the place,” he said. “There are lots more press here today than normal. There are people outside the ground every day. Once we come in here we train and get on with it. It doesn’t affect us.”
“It has been good having him here. Everyone respects him, likes him.”
“There’s nothing flashy about him, in my opinion. He just comes in and just gets on with it. He’s a great role model for any footballer.”
