Salgado sticks with Blackburn

Blackburn have secured the services of right-back Michel Salgado, signing him on a contract extension until the end of the 2011-12 season.

The former Real Madrid star is a cult figure at Ewood Park, and the 35-year-old was considered a wanted player by manager Steve Kean.

“To keep Michel here is great news, his experience is invaluable and his enthusiasm infectious. He’s a winner and you can never have too many of those,” Kean told Rovers’ official website.

Salgado, who has one cap for Spain, has appeared 45 times in a Rovers shirt since leaving the Bernabeu and scored one goal.

Salgado’s extension comes after the re-signing of New Zealand international Ryan Nelsen, as Kean looks to build a squad to take Blackburn into the European places in the English Premier League.
