What do Premier League managers need in 2011?

I’d just like to wish all our readers a very Happy New Year. A new year always brings a fresh outlook and focus on life.

And I am no different I hope to bring our readers even more interesting articles in 2011.

I’m sure I speak for everybody at Soccernews when I say we appreciate your participate and interest in the site and long may it continue.

Managers

Just like all of us Premier League managers will be hoping for good things in 2011’s and here is what some of those poor lost souls need in 2011.

David Moyes (Everton)

As regular readers of my editorials know I am a big Everton. Unfortunately Everton are currently struggling to win games and the answer is simple, we are missing far too many chances. Strikers Yakubu, Jermaine Beckford and Louis Saha have scored three Premier League goals between them, two of those coming from Beckford.

Every Everton fan knows we need a new striker and David Moyes knows we need a striker. Unfortunately Moyes currently has no money to spend in the January transfer window and will have to sign a striker on-loan. David Moyes would love a player to score him goals; I just hope he gets his wish.

Ian Holloway (Blackpool)

Ian Holloway is a very shrewd manager but he has the problem of being a big character. Now being a character in football is usually a good thing but it sometimes means you’re not taken very seriously. Blackpool’s performances in the Premier League have led to Ollie being taken slightly more seriously.

He will be hoping that 2011 leads him to become more famous for his managerial achievements than his gags and one-liners. As a Premier League manager he needs now to be taken seriously.

Roy Hodgson (Liverpool)

The Liverpool boss has put himself under immense pressure by criticising the Liverpool fans. It’s the worst thing he could do at a club like Liverpool. The only thing that will save him from the sack is a good run of results and even that might not save him at the moment.

If he doesn’t get a run of good results then he won’t last much longer at Anfield with Liverpool’s new owners losing their patience at their sides poor performances. However Hodgson is in desperate need of their patience. Unfortunately 2011 could be the year that Woy departs Anfield.

Arsene Wenger (Arsenal)

Now the Frenchman is in need of a few things in 2011. Firstly he is need of a trip down to the opticians to get his glasses checked because he still seems to miss every controversial incident.

The second thing that Wenger is in desperate need of is a trophy, just any trophy. The Gunners haven’t won a trophy in over five years. The Gunners are accustomed to winning trophies under Wenger but the trophy cabinet has been slightly bare in recent years.

The third and last thing is something I have banged on about for a long time, a reliable goalkeeper. If I was an Arsenal fan I wouldn’t have faith in Polish stopper Lukasz Fabianski. Spanish keeper Manuel Almunia is being linked with a move back to his homeland and youngster Wojciech Szczesny is inexperienced.

Avram Grant (West Ham)

The West Ham boss hasn’t had much to shout about this season but surely with his side’s performances improving in recent weeks he could afford a smile. He is in need of strengthening his squad in January and has been promised funds in the transfer window to sign new additions.

I think it’s fair to say that if the Hammers results don’t start improving he will get exactly what he doesn’t need the sack.

Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea)

The Italian really needs his side to recapture their scoring boots or he will get the boot. Confidence has been low at the champions and Ancelotti will be hoping a narrow 1-0 victory over Bolton on Wednesday will be the catalyst to kick-start their Premier League title bid.

Others

I’m sure there are others Premier League bosses out there who are in need of things but the aforementioned are the managers that are the bosses in need of particular things this year.

Every Premier League manager would say they are in need of victory in their next match but if they didn’t then they shouldn’t be in the game.

What does your club’s manager need in 2011?
