…but maybe it could have been three, or am I just being greedy? Andy Carroll’s 4th league goal so far gained Newcastle a point at Wolves yesterday having gone behind to an Ebanks-Blake goal. But the first half had seen Newcastle dominate possession and chances and leaves me with the feeling that possibly we could have got more.
Then again, Wolves were denied a pretty blatant penalty when James Perch fouled an opponent, so Wolves fans are probably left with the same feeling.
The other notable part of the match was the repeated heavy-handed tactics used against Joey Barton, who has been in influential mood in the Toon midfield lately. Quite how Wolves didn’t end up with reduced numbers I don’t know, but such tactics are only to be expected from the ex-Mackem thug Mick McCarthy.
Thankfully his tactics didn’t succeed – either in getting Barton injured, or in getting him to retaliate and get himself sent-off which seemed to be the approach Wolves were taking, or in getting a win through those methods.
Another point gained then and next up are Blackpool at home after the international break a couple of weeks from now, by which time there may be some new recruits to the cause with a bit of luck.
