Not a great deal going on today as we wait on word on just how severe Abou Diaby’s injury is, but there are a couple of things worth talking about:
First, Cesc has come out and said that the team trusts Almunia. The rudder of the Arsenal says: “He is well-loved player among everybody here and performs well for this club. We all wish him a super season and have a lot of trust.”
Now, we all know that it definitely looks like Arsenal’s defence do not trust Almunia at times, certainly towards the end of last season. But Almunia is our # 1 keeper, and just as the fans need to rally around him, his teammates do, too, and it’s good that Cesc came out and said this publicly. Exactly what you’d want from your captain. And frankly, if Almunia keeps playing like he has the first 4 games, I think his teammates should have some trust in him, because he’s looked pretty solid so far.
Next, Bolton defender Gary Cahill is set to appeal his sending off on Saturday. I said it was a bad call, and I don’t blame him. But while I think it was soft, I have to say I’d be somewhat surprised if he gets it overturned — he did come straight through a man from behind without getting any of the ball, and I think the appeals panel will probably uphold the referee’s judgment and discretion there.
And finally, Arsene Wenger has said that he will not change his style of play. Alex Song’s goal on Saturday was the 1000th league goal scored by Arsenal under Wenger, and when asked about it, he said, “I think the Arsenal fans want to win and be entertained. The target is to win and to win with style.” And good for him. While at times our defense can be a bit suspect, I do think we’ve consistently been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the world under Wenger’s tenure, and I for one don’t want to see that changed a bit.
That’s it for a slow news day. Sairax or I will update if there’s any word on Diaby’s injury.

PrintShare.wp-notable img {border: none;margin-left:5px;} Darren_VAbout Almunia, he has been decent this year. Although v Liverpool he looked terrible with every cross in the box and put 8 years on my life. 3 out of 4 games looking solid is decent though.Even England's new golden-child Joe Hart had a shocker this year.SairaxI agree about Almunia. The last thing he needs is to have us jump all over him with every little mistake. He's our #1 so he needs our support, and to be fair, he's looked good this season as well as more motivated.blog comments powered by Disqus
