Somebody should have told this guy nobody ever finishes on Steven Gerrard’s corners.

PrintShare.wp-notable img {border: none;margin-left:5px;} INCABRUCEGrubb take it for what it is. Ed is trying to make light of a shitty situation.Moving forward it is funny but I thought the same thing this weekend. That is why doesn't stevie get beastly and do what he can to put one in the back of the net.... Then I started thinking who could possibly take them.
O wait--- LUCAS!!!! :)EdFor the record, I didn't take any offense to what Grubb wrote--I think I probably agree with a lot of it.
I remember last season when he hit the winner at Bolton we were all talking about how dangerous he could be in just the type of situation you (and Rosco and Michael) describe: floating on the edge of the area, waiting for a jumbled ball to fall just so.
The truth is that, outside of maybe Fabio Aurelio, Gerrard's the best dead-ball striker on the squad. A good chunk of the time he provides fantastic service, but like Grubb mentions, there's not usually anyone on the end, and when there is, the finishing isn't always there.
Anyway, I saw an opportunity to make a commentary on masturbation and its relationship to Liverpool's ability to score from set pieces, and I took it. I have no regrets.NoelYou've lived a full life.GrubbWhere did this Gerrard takes rubbish corners thing originate? I've been watching him take them for years now, and I can't see how they're any worse than anyone elses.
In fact, I'd name up our inability to replace Sami Hyypia's aerial prowess as an important factor in the low conversion rate. Agger and particularly Skrtel have been guilty of many easy missed headers from corners over the last two seasons, chances big Sami would have buried.
Stevie hangs the ball in a very dangerous area between keeper and penalty spot, just that nobody seems to want to put their body on the line bar Kuyt. As much as I love Nando, he's no Drogba in the air, and he doesn't ever attack an aerial ball he's not certain of winning.
We've also traditionally been a team of short-arses under Rafa (Crouch being the notable exception), so it's not like Stevie's had a forest of gargantuan timber to aim for a la Stoke.
I honestly can't see the truth in the 'Stevie's crap at corners' bit. Or is this one of those throwaway lines that footballers seem to get pinned with? Lampard and Rooney are both fat, Crouch is rubbish in the air but has good feet for a big man, and Gerrard takes rubbish corners?EdI just thought it sounded good.RoscoIve always been baffled as to why gerrard takes corners. Surely he's more of a threat either in the box or just outside it than the Rest of them.
Did spy that guy during the game, probably the only thing that warranted a smile!!Michael T. PerryI have to agree with Rosco... I'd like to see Gerrard prowling just outside the box, waiting to punish the unfortunate ball which happens to bounce loose in his direction. Alternatively, he could re-service the ball from that position.KatieYour caption FTW. Great work, Ed.
Gerrard's corners are kind of bad, but this guy seems to like them a little too much.blog comments powered by Disqus
