Not so happy Hammers

By: Aidan | October 22nd, 2010

012AlfGarnett_228x362Tomorrow evening sees Newcastle making the long trek down to visit the cockney geezers of West Ham. We haven’t always had the best of luck down in the East End of London but as with last week against Wigan, we have got ourselves into a position where we really don’t want to be losing this one, a draw is really the minimum requirement to avoid us slipping down a bit further.

West Ham may well be on a bit of an unbeaten run – 4 games at present – but they are still bottom of the league (yes, even below Liverpool) and so will be desperate to get the points against what they will see as a beatable Newcastle side.

Danny Simpson is back in contention after injury, and so could replace James Perch at right-back. Perch hasn’t had the best of starts to life as a Premier League player let’s be honest, and Simpson has looked decent at times, we shall see.

Someone who won’t be involved is Sol Campbell, who is injured again. And whether or not Andy Carroll is in the right state of mind after the week he’s had remains to be seen.

I would expect another 4-5-1 line up away from home, no matter what the personnel, as that seems to be the way Hughton is approaching things. But West Ham, Scott Parker aside, are brittle and there for the taking by decent teams. Can we be classed as that? I’m not so sure, but we need to have a bit of a go at them at least.
